Do multimode fiber transceivers have to be used in pairs?

Time:2022-05-30 Views:

As a product of optical transceivers, fiber optic transceivers are generally used in pairs, but it is also normal for fiber optic transceivers and fiber optic switches, and fiber optic transceivers and SFP transceivers to be used in pairs. In principle, as long as the optical transmission wavelength is the same, The signal encapsulation format is the same and all supports a certain protocol to realize optical fiber communication.

Generally, a dual-fiber transceiver (two fibers is required for normal communication) does not have a transmitter and a receiver. Only a single-fiber transceiver (one fiber is required for normal communication) will have a transmitter and a receiver.

Whether it is a dual-fiber transceiver or a single-fiber transceiver, it is compatible to use different brands in pairs. However, different speeds (100M and 1000M) and different wavelengths (1310nm and 1300nm) cannot communicate with each other. In addition, even if a single-fiber transceiver of the same brand forms a pair with dual-fiber dual-fiber Interoperable.

The dual-fiber transceiver has a TX port (transmitting port) and an RX port (receiving port). Both ports transmit the same wavelength of 1310nm and receive 1310nm. Therefore, two parallel optical fibers are used for cross-connection. The single-fiber transceiver has only one port, which needs to realize both the transmitting function and the receiving function. It uses the wavelength division multiplexing technology to transmit two beams of optical signals of different wavelengths on one optical fiber to realize the sending and receiving. Generally the wavelengths they use are 1310nm and 1550nm.

Optical fiber transceivers of different brands all support the Ethernet protocol, and transceivers of the same specification can communicate with each other, but some transceivers will add some functions (such as mirroring function) and support some protocols, so these functions are not available in other transceivers. is not supported.
