How much is a meter of fiber optic cable?

Time:2022-09-06 Views:

How much is a meter of fiber optic cable? In security applications, the most common determinant of choosing multimode or singlemode is distance. If only a few miles, multimode is preferred because LED transmitter/receivers are much cheaper than lasers required for single mode. For distances greater than 5 miles, single-mode fiber is best. Another issue to consider is bandwidth; if future applications are likely to include the transmission of large bandwidth data signals, then single-mode would be the best choice.

Optical fibers transmit optical signals in communications. Optical fiber has large bandwidth and low attenuation. We are now so advanced in communication that it would not be possible without fiber optics.

The outer diameter of the quartz glass of the optical fiber is 125 microns, which is equivalent to the thickness of a human hair. The light-transmitting core is only 8.2 microns. The refractive index of the core is high, so light can be transmitted through total reflection at the core of the fiber.

The optical fibers used in general communication are single-mode fibers. Multimode fiber accounts for only about 5% of the fiber market.

If it is not made into an optical cable, the commonly used ordinary single-mode optical cable is about 0.15 yuan/meter. Made into a single-core optical cable, about 1 yuan / meter. At present, my country also has many FTTH projects.
