Selection and placement of optical splitters

Time:2022-04-01 Views:

Optical splitter is a passive functional device that realizes optical splitting technology at the splitting point.

The biggest difference between a PON network and a traditional optical network lies in the optical device, an optical splitter, which can convert one optical input into multiple optical outputs, making the traditional P2P optical transmission network a P2MP PON Tree.

Optical splitter is also called optical splitter, also called SPL, splitter.

According to the processing technology, the beam splitter is divided into: fusion taper type (FBT) and planar optical waveguide type (PLC)

The simple understanding of fused taper (FBT) is to fuse two optical fibers together at high temperature, and monitor the output of the splitting ratio in real time; after the splitting ratio reaches the requirements, the melting and stretching is terminated. The FBT type can generally do equal and unequal distribution of light.

The planar optical waveguide type is to etch the optical path on the chip, and split light through physical effects such as optical path coupling. The PLC type is equal to light, and the signal can be evenly divided into multiple outlets from a single or two inlets.

At present, FBT-type products with large splitting ratio can only work within the range of 1310±40, 1490±10, and 1550±40, and the insertion loss of other bands will be very large;

Due to the simpler process and equipment, the price of FBT products is lower; the selection can be based on two aspects of cost and performance.
