Several Common Optical Fiber Patch Cords and Their Applications

Time:2022-07-13 Views:

Fiber optic patch cords (also known as fiber optic connectors) refer to the installation of connector plugs at both ends of the fiber optic cable to connect equipment and fiber optic cabling links.

There are various classification standards for optical fiber jumpers, which can be divided into silicon-based fiber jumpers and plastic optical fiber jumpers according to different transmission media. According to the connector structure, it can be divided into FC jumper, SC jumper, ST jumper, LC jumper, MTRJ jumper, MPO jumper, MU jumper, SMA jumper, E2000 jumper, D4 jumper, etc.

Fiber patch cords are usually connected to equipment by connecting optical modules. Different modules have different connection requirements, such as SFP+ optical module, XFP optical module, SFP optical module to LC optical fiber connector, X2 optical module, XENPAK optical module, GBIC optical module to SC optical fiber connector, etc. The following are several common fiber optic connectors and their application descriptions:

Fiber Jumper

①FC type optical fiber jumper: circular optical fiber connector, reinforced with metal sleeve, and fastened with turnbuckle. (Commonly used in patch panels)

②SC-type optical fiber jumper: The connector shell is rectangular, and the fastening method is plug-in latch type, which does not rotate. (Commonly used in routers and switches)

③ST-type optical fiber jumper: The connector shell is round, card type, and the fastening method is turnbuckle. (Commonly used in optical fiber distribution frame)

④LC-type optical fiber jumper: square connector, using modular jack (RJ) locking mechanism, easy to operate. (commonly used by routers)
